In late June of 2023, there was loads of progress on the construction of Leaf Tree Mk2!
Caps for the Trunks and the heels and toes of the Leaf cleat assembly were cut from the same piece of poplar board (the softest hardwood, or the hardest softwood (depending on who you ask)), and the Leafs, Tree Top, and the Root System Mk 2 were cut from the same piece of Birch plywood.
The biggest change for Root System Mk 2 is the introduction of multiple fastening points for the trunk! Allowing for multiple vertical runs using the same base. This change necessitated the redesign of the cover to accommodate the 8 additional fastening points, and this redesign was the opportunity to make the first removable base cover.
The top, which would technically be Mk 3, was the same shape as Mk 2 (octagonal) but closer in size to Mk 1 (which was square). This new top size also necessitated the remaking of a cover, and this one was made to be removable as well.
Once the cleats were cut and freed from the poplar board, they were stacked into our custom jig for teeth to be cut into them, and the upgrade from pine (a fairly soft wood) to poplar resulted in the most consistent teeth yet!
